1600s

                                              episode nine

1600s

In this episode we take a look at the fascinating 1600s.

As the period we know as the Elizabethan era draws to a close, the separate countries of Britain are drawn together under a single monarch, a single Parliament and a single rule of law.

Though when conflicts arise with the new king, the Parliament is dissolved entirely and the country is plunged into the Eleven Year Tyranny, with the king going it alone.

Across the century we begin to see the formation of some of the staples of British politics and foreign policies, and such landmark historical events as the Great Plague, the Great Fire of London and the Gunpowder Plot.
